Energy Audit

If you think your energy costs are getting out of hand maybe it's time to do something about it.
What You Get With Our Energy Audit

Our low cost energy audit is desighed to identify all of the opportunities that exist in your home to save energy without spending all of your money on the audit. We use advanced Infrared thermal Imaging technology to examine your entire home for areas that are not energy efficient. Infrared thermal imaging can reveal anomalies that remain hidden from the naked eye. It allows us to identify missing or poorly installed insulation and areas of your home were air infiltration/exfiltration causes an energy loss. (Heat loss in the winter and cooling loss in the summer)

We do not use a blower door which would greatly increase your cost. A blower door is often used to measure the air exchange rate to determine if you need a seal-up which is no more than a caulking job. The infrared thermal scan, which will show areas of air infiltration, is used to determine if you should have a seal-up performed. Fact is; you either need a seal up or you don't.

If a window or door appears to be in good condition, there can be a lot of air infiltration if the window was not properly insulated and sealed during installation. The air gets in through the gap between the window and the rough framing and enters the room around the trim. During a seal-up is when a blower door is invaluable. The contractor will continue to caulk around the trim throughout the home until the air exchange rate is in an acceptable range.

Strong>One size has never fit all and it never will. If you just want the results of the thermal scan which will show the areas of concern that the naked eye does not see and do not want the energy savings cost/benefit report below, I'll provide you with a report that shows the areas of concern and you can discuss the upgrades with a your contractor.

We also perform a CMC Home Energy Tune-uP® designed to increase comfort, save you money, add to your home's value, and improve the environment. Want to see an example of the energy savings /cost/benefit report? Call us and we'll email one to you.

The four steps of a Home Energy Tune-uP®

STEP 1     INSPECTION - Your certified energy inspector examines and measures the home and finds all opportunities for energy savings.

STEP 2     DETAILED ANALYSIS - Specialized software produces a Report which contains an energy savings cost/benefit report.

STEP 3     IMPLEMENTATION - The Report provides access to a database of contractors and a direct line to an energy expert.

STEP 4     FINANCING - Each Report lists the group of improvements that, when financed, may save more than the cost of the upgrade.

Best Conditions for Infrared Interpretation

Conditions must be optimum for an optimum result. If the weather is not cooperative we prefer to reschedule.

For best results the temperature difference between the outdoors and indoors should be at least 20 degrees. Lesser differences make interpretation if the images less definitive.

Exterior scanning can not be done when it's raining or snowing. The snow and rain mask subtle temperature differences.
